ETW #62 Entrepreneurship & The Future of Tourism

By: Matt Long

Overberg South Africa

This week I’m honored that travel industry thought leader Mariëtte du Toit-Helmbold joined me to talk about entrepreneurship, the future of travel post-COVID and tourism in South Africa. Mariëtte isn’t just one of the most knowledgeable people in the travel industry, she’s also one of the most inspirational. The former CEO of Cape Town Tourism, Mariëtte started her own tourism marketing agency Destinate in 2013 ensuring her impact on tourism now extends well past the Mother City of Africa.

You can listen to the podcast here on this page or on any of these services: iTunes, Google Play, Spotify, Stitcher.

This week’s podcast is a little different than others in that my guest and I chat about a variety of different topics, including entrepreneurship and staying motivated during this admittedly challenging time. It’s amazing to think how much has changed in such a short period of time. Every aspect of our lives has been altered in ways that are probably permanent. Dealing with change and uncertainty is more common though for entrepreneurs and small business owners who have built their lives on this kind of unpredictability. To help us all better cope with the present and prepare for the future, Mariëtte du Toit-Helmbold shares her thoughts on dealing with fear, how to stay positive and, most importantly, how to position yourself for the new normal.

In addition to entrepreneurship, Mariëtte and I also talk about what travel and tourism will look like in the years to come and even what to see and do in South Africa.
