One block over from Santa Fe’s downtown plaza square, Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi has a location that can’t be beat. Its luxe rooms, complete with modern baths and kiva-style fireplaces, are pretty amazing too. The intimate property was tastefully renovated just a few years ago while retaining a sense of place and authenticity with regard to the inn’s history and surroundings, and the name itself pays homage to the ancestral pueblo people, the Anasazi, who lived in the area.

The 58-room Rosewood feels stylish and cozy with gorgeous paintings, tapestries, weavings and ceramics by local artists featured throughout. The hotel’s walkability to downtown Santa Fe attractions, galleries and restaurants, is a huge boon. It also makes it easier if you have a young child who naps or if you just need to come back to your room to decompress and freshen up.

Our Premier King room, featuring a king bed, a pullout sofa and a coffee table, worked for our family of four, especially since our kids are still young. The property does offer some suite configurations that include a living/dining area.
Arriving back from dinner, we found that the turndown service included child-size robes as well as a bedtime story about a bear and coyote originating from ancestral pueblo people. Our kids felt sad for the coyote — he had been tricked out of his share of the crops by the bear. It was a small gesture, but I appreciated that the bedtime fable connected us to the history of the land and the people who had lived here in a way that was perfect and appropriate for children.

Dining
Our short visit didn’t allow much time to dine at the Rosewood’s restaurant, but we heard rave reviews about Chef Edgar Beas’ creativity and culinary prowess. One of the hotel’s most popular offerings includes a visit to a farmer’s market with Beas followed by a farm-to-table lunch. Children’s menus are available for both the restaurant and in-room dining. The hotel bar is also famous for its extensive 70-plus-bottle tequila collection and margaritas (aka mommy juice).

Amenities and Excursions
Onsite amenities are limited but include a fitness center (no pool), massages and aromatherapy treatments. Rosewood’s Rose Buds for Children program offers baby and toddler gear such as monitors, cribs, toiletries, bottle warmers and more, plus an in-room childproofing service.
Had our kids been older, I would have jumped at the chance to take a hot air balloon ride in the area; the landscape and colors are so breathtaking. Albuquerque, about an hour from Santa Fe, is famous for its annual hot air balloon festival, held during the first week of October. The next best thing? The Rosewood offers a year-round hot air balloon package that takes guests over the Rio Grande Gorge.
