Usually kids and pre-sunrise wakeup times don’t mix, but the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque, New Mexico, each October is a notable exception. Yes, it requires awakening while on vacation when it’s still dark. But the reward is being able to witness the glow of flames as the hundreds of balloons begin to go from enormous empty sacks to beautiful shapes and spheres.
As the sun rises, the balloons do as well, and soon the endless New Mexico sky is full of them — a true feast for the eyes that the whole family will never forget.
