Beyond Expectations: A Fantastic Luxury Cabin in Jackson Hole

By: Amie O'Shaughnessy

Families heading to Jackson Hole who want the best of a home rental paired with the best of a hotel should check out The Clear Creek Group, a property management and rental agency with incredible luxury inventory throughout the area. We had the pleasure of spending time at Shooting Star Cabin 8, a three-bedroom/three and a half-bathroom home in the Shooting Star development last summer. This spectacular members-only golf club in Teton Village at the base of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort enables seamless access to skiing, hiking, biking, shopping, dining and a host of other special activities crafted just for families with kids of all ages.

What made our experience so outstanding is that we felt like we gave up nothing. We enjoyed a spacious mountain retreat with incredible finishes and amenities, including a beautiful Jacuzzi overlooking the outrageous scenery, paired with a complimentary concierge service worthy of a five-diamond hotel.

Conceived and managed by owners Morgan Bruemmer and Phil and Betsy Stevenson since 2005, The Clear Creek Group has successfully executed their promise to provide truly top-notch rental properties that are thoroughly vetted and managed with a meticulous eye. This matters, as the last thing families want to deal with on vacation is wasting time chasing repairs or making requests that go unanswered. This is one reason why, in some markets, Ciao Bambino doesn’t recommend individual rentals — it’s just too much risk. However, when we find a reliable partner like this, we’re all in!

Shooting Star Cabin 8’s stunning great room

Shooting Star is an exclusive development with an extensive club and services for its owners. Although each home has its own layout and individual design features, they all have the same look. We stayed in Shooting Star Cabin 8, part of an area that uses old wood and unique rustic materials that blend perfectly with the Western setting. While these units look weathered on the outside, they are state-of-the-art inside. We were utterly blown away by the quality of the construction of our unit, with thick wood doors and frames and a spacious gourmet kitchen outfitted with Viking and Sub-Zero appliances.

Bathrooms are equally luxurious and have beautiful stonework throughout. Mountain comfort is the theme, with hefty furnishings accented by soft fabrics. The atmosphere feels light and bright over the summer with extensive windows, but it would be equally inviting through Jackson Hole’s famously long winter and ski season.

Two of the bedrooms have gas fireplaces

Two of the bedrooms have king beds and gas fireplaces, while the third bedroom has two twin beds. There’s an additional room with a daybed and twin trundle on the main floor, as well as a queen sofa bed, bringing the total sleeping capacity of Shooting Star to 8 to 10. There’s a cozy den area with a TV and a second open-plan large great room off the kitchen, as well as a full mud/laundry room and a heated two-car garage. It’s perfect for two families who want to share the experience and the bill!

Double vanity in the master bathroom

What’s particularly appealing is that this home was built by (and is still used by) the family who invested in its wonderful features, so it feels lived in with photos and quality artwork, not contrived and cold like many rentals. Moreover, it’s stocked with games, books and even a telescope; families will truly settle into this home away from home. The outdoor space includes the Jacuzzi, BBQ, lounge chairs and table seating, and a small grassy area.

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is one of North America’s ski icons and is known for exceptional terrain. A free shuttle goes right to the village with the tram, gondola and lifts. There are plenty of dine-in and take-out restaurants right in the development and a convenience store, although a real grocery store is a 10-minute drive away. The town of Jackson, offering extensive shopping, dining and history, is a 20-minute drive down a scenic road with a bike trail; wildlife can frequently be spotted right from these roads. One of the entrances to Grand Teton National Park, which is among our nation’s breathtaking natural jewels, is just a 5-minute drive from the property. Yellowstone National Park is farther afield but still accessible via a day trip.

No shortage of breathtaking scenery in and around Jackson Hole

All in all, this convenient location is absolutely unbelievable in all seasons. Seeing how busy the town was each day in the peak of the tourist season, I liked staying a development removed from the crowds. It’s hard to decide what to do each day; in bad weather, we’d have been equally happy snuggling up in this incredible home by the wood-burning fire. The Clear Creek’s inventory includes properties of all shapes and sizes our advisors can help recommend options and/or incorporate a stay in an action-packed family itinerary. Our stop was one of a few on a great Western road trip through Idaho, Wyoming and Colorado. We can help plan a road trip like this too!
