American Airlines bolsters Caribbean, Hawaii routes; suspends Chicago-Beijing

American Airlines rolled out a wide-ranging set of route adjustments Wednesday that will see the carrier bolster service to Hawaii and the Caribbean and suspend a major route to China.
The changes bring new Caribbean routes to four of American’s hubs, including four from Chicago O’Hare and two from Charlotte. Miami and Dallas/Fort Worth each get one new Caribbean route, though Miami’s introduces a new destination to American’s route map: St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Brand USA’s 2017 marketing campaigns generated 1.16 million incremental international visitors to the United States, with a total economic impact of $8.5 billion, supporting 54,212 incremental jobs, according to research by Oxford Economics.
The economic impact study found that the results equate to a marketing return on investment of 29:1 based on Brand USA’s $140 million in marketing expenses and incremental international visitor spending of $4.1 billion.
United: Former White House press secretary Earnest to be new communications chief

United Airlines has tapped former White House press secretary Josh Earnest for the company’s top communications role.
With the title of “senior vice president and chief communications officer,” Earnest takes the reigns at United during an extended run of negative news at the USA’s third-biggest carrier.
The company has endured a number of public relations challenges in recent years, including the passenger-dragging incident with Dr. David Dao, the death of a pet in an overhead storage bin and an employee lottery plan that fell flat when it was introduced as a replacement for worker bonuses.
Costa Rica Signs Agreement to Attract More Cruises

The number of cruise boats that have arrived in Costa Rica in the last 2 years increased by 70%, from 150 to 250 visits. This increase is not enough for the main agents involved with the arrival of cruise passengers so, this May 3rd, 2018, they signed a memorandum of understanding to launch the 1st National Cruise Strategy.
This document was signed by the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA), the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT), the Port Administration and Economic Development Board of the Atlantic Coast (Japdeva) and, finally, the Costa Rican Institute of Pacific Ports (Incop).
