We decided to stay at the 179-room Mandarin Oriental Tokyo while exploring Japan with kids and found it to be an incredible home base, with large rooms and extensive amenities paired with unbeatable convenience and service.

The design of the Mandarin Oriental Tokyo is contemporary with beautiful Japanese accents. Although there is constant refurbishment at some level with a property of this caliber, much of it feels timeless — not cutting-edge and trendy, but not dated either … just luxurious and comfortable with essential modern upgrades. Views from the Mandarin Oriental’s 157 rooms and 22 suites are nothing short of spectacular, from Tokyo’s iconic Skytree Tower to Mt. Fuji. Many rooms and suites connect for larger family-friendly configurations with loads of living space and multiple bathrooms.

Mandarin Oriental Tokyo is home to 11 lounges/restaurants
Exceptional Food and Beverage Experiences
A special part of the stay at the Mandarin Oriental Tokyo is the food and beverage experience. It is home to four Michelin-starred restaurants out of 11 total food and beverage venues! Their Tapas Molecular Bar is one of the hot experiences in Tokyo right now. We were near the bar and watched the unusual presentation of the food to the lucky guests that night — incredible! Everyone was laughing and having a great time through this special meal.
We ate at their The Pizza Bar on 38th one night and, though that sounds crazy in Tokyo, it was a much-needed culinary break after a week of very traditional Japanese meal. The food experience in Japan is an integral part of the travel experience, but we were craving something different after a week on the road, and the pizza and Italian salads here are truly exceptional. Another property perk is that the hotel is connected to a mall with 140 shopping and dining venues with a variety of options at all price points.
A subway stop is in the bottom of the MO Tokyo building, making this an amazingly convenient base
Unbeatable Location
The location of the Mandarin Oriental Tokyo is nothing short of ideal. There is a subway station in the basement of the building that houses the hotel! The property is eight minutes from Tokyo Station, the hub for the bullet trains that go through the country. It doesn’t get easier than that … The Mandarin Oriental Tokyo is accessible to all of Tokyo’s main attractions, and a 30-minute ride from Tokyo Disney.
The hotel doesn’t have a swimming pool, but there is an extensive fitness center and gym with more spectacular views. Offering mini-yukatas, childproofed rooms, babysitting services and more, the Mandarin Oriental Tokyo attracts families from all over the world with kids of all ages.
Spectacular Service
I’d be remiss in not mentioning the spectacular service. From the extensive front desk staff to the room staff, gracious service is the mantra at every turn. The goal at the Mandarin Oriental Tokyo is to make the guest experience inside and outside the hotel as rewarding and enjoyable as possible. Mission accomplished!
