In Philippine History, the Republic of Biak-na-Bato was the first republic declared in the country by Emilio Aguinaldo. Most of it was located in Barangay that shares the same name. It became a National Park in 1937 as proclaimed by Manuel L. Quezon.
Located in the province of Bulacan, this park is a popular spot for adventurers as you can get a fantastic view of the park at the top of Mt. Manalmon. It’s also very easy for beginners. Should you be up for more adventures, explore Bayubok Cave and the historical Madlum Cave. You’ll enjoy a day there and go home with fun memories.

Things to do in Biak-Na-Bato National Park
1. Hike Mt. Manalmon
If you want to try hiking near the metro, Mt. Manalmon is a great place to start if you are a beginner. The hike to the summit is 1 or 2 hours depending on your speed, another one to go down. Guides are required to help you on your trail and keep you safe. P.S. If you want more another mountain to conquer, Mt. Gola is just a 30 or 1-hour hike from here.
2. Spelunk!
Spelunk on the caves of Biak-Na-Bato National Park. There are two famous caves in the area, one is the Madlum or Manalmon Cave, that’s a location site for Mulawin as well as a refuge during World War 2. The other one is the Bayubok cave, which will take about two hours to explore as there are challenging chambers that needs you to crawl, climb, or rappel down. It’s an adventure!
3. Take a dip!
As you hike on the trail towards the caves or to another mountain (Mt. Gola), you’ll pass by Madlum River. You can surely have a picnic in this area. Don’t forget to take a dip and enjoy the waters.

- There are stores near the registration area, however, beyond that, you might find none
- It’s better to buy your food before coming here or packing a picnic
How to get to Biak Na Bato National Park
By Bus
- Ride a bus to Cabanatuan City or Gapan City, the ones that pass by San Miguel, Bulacan (not the ones that pass by SCTEX)
- Travel time is 2 to 3 hours
- You may pay PHP 100 – 200
- Stop at Brgy. Kamias / Camias
- From there, take a tricycle to Biak-na-Bato National Park (PHP 250 – 400 per tricycle)
By Car
- You can use google maps for this
- Take the North Luzon Expressway and take the Sta, Rita Exit
- Continue to Plaridel Bypass Road to San Miguel
- When you arrive at Brgy. Kamias, you can ask locals for the direction to Brgy. Madlum
Travel Guide Tips to Biak Na Bato National Park
- It’s better if you are fit if you want to enjoy all of the activities here
- Pack lunch or food as there are not restaurants or carenderias in the area
- Bring extra clothes, especially if you will be swimming
- As you will cross the river, you can use those easy-to-dry sandals or shoes; it should also be comfortable for hiking
- Use sunblock or at least wear proper attire during your trekking or spelunking
- You can also bring waterproof bags or gadgets
- Bring lots of water for hydration
- Be mindful of the rules; no vandalizing or littering in the area
