Movies that will make you travel virtually during lockdown

By: Carmen Caballero

Traveling has always been the perfect way out to break the routine, to escape difficult situations or, simply, to discover the world beyond our borders and connect with ourselves. However, today we have to be responsible and fulfill the #StayAtHome and #TakeCare for the good of all. Because only then will we be able to do what we love the most: travel the world together. So even if we can’t travel today, we can dream: #DreamNowTravelLater. Dream about our wishlist trips that we will go to when we are finally safe and able to travel again. So, to make this quarantine more enjoyable and because now it is time to travel virtually from the sofa, here are some films and series that will help you travel virtually or make you dream where to go next:

Paris Can Wait

Anne finds herself at a crossroads in her life. Married to a successful film producer, one day she finds herself unexpectedly traveling by car from Cannes to Paris with a business partner of her husband. What should be a seven-hour trip turns into a fun-filled two-day adventure full of picturesque places, good food and best wine, lots of humor, wisdom and romance, awakening Anne’s senses and giving her new wishes.

The Trip to Italy

You can watch this series of movies which will teleport you to fascinating luxury places, restaurants, wines and hotels. In this case, you will be involved in a comedy where its characters work for gastronomic travel guides of modern times. The entire film is full of optimism and joy, so much so that in the end it makes you want to go to Italy and drink and eat it all.

Murder on the Orient Express

This movie based in the novel of Agatha Christie takes us to great places that the writer herself knew, such as Iraq or Syria.

Regardless, the Murder book on the Orient Express and by extension the most traveling film is Murder on the Orient Express. And I say “despite everything” because it hardly shows places to want to travel since everything happens on the train itself, but is there anything that makes you think more about trips than a long-distance train line?

Out of Africa: Some films over the years are reduced to an image or a scene and the rest does not matter so much in the collective imagination. This is the case of the movie Memories of Africa. The scenes of the plane, the unforgettable music and the landscapes of Kenya captured wonderfully by the cinematographer.

Eat, Pray, Love: Of course, this hit that takes us on a journey around the world is a great option to spend these days when we only have to stay at home. Places like Italy, India or Bali can be seen in this movie.

Little Miss Sunshine

This dramatic comedy is a road movie capable of making the most travelers dream. Because … who has never wanted to get behind the wheel of a yellow Volkswagen Kombi and travel the American roads of California and Arizona? This film portrays the daily life of a dysfunctional family traveling in a ramshackle van so that their daughter Olive can participate in a beauty pageant. Irony, criticism and diversity will be the protagonists of what will become the adventure of their lives.

Magical Andes: A wonderful documentary that shows all the destinations around the Andes mountain range. With a wonderful photograph, this documentary will make you fall in love with all of South America.

Midnight In Paris

This may be Woody Allen’s tribute to Paris, but what begins as a collection of postcards ends at midnight as a declaration of love for life, strolling in the rain and the possibility that we will continue to think that we can change the course of our lives thanks to movies like his.

Wild

The plan of the this movies main character, a wild soul, is to cross the states of California and Oregon, from south to north, covering more than 1,600 kilometers. This route is known as the Pacific Crest Trail and becomes Cheryl Strayed’s last hope to guide her life. Abrupt landscapes, deserts, forests, rivers and mountains will be the setting for this American film that will make us dream of going through them. Soon.

The Tourist

Venice, Angelina Jolie and a guy who is her boyfriend but who is never there. In the middle of the equation, gangsters appear, Scotland Yard and a mathematician who travels as a tourist and who will become a victim of circumstances. The plot unravels, but the viewer anticipates. Like Angelina, The Tourist shows her calf, and then reveals herself modest.

Lost In Translation

Set in the city of Tokyo, this dramatic comedy will take us on a trip through the streets of the Japanese city, discovering such frenetic places as the Akihabara neighborhood, the artificial island of Odaiba or even encouraging us to live the experience of a Japanese karaoke. The stages of Tokyo will become the refuge of the two lost souls of the protagonists and, why not, ours in these days of quarantine. Hit play and enjoy the film that strengthened the career of SofĂa Coppola and that won the Oscar for the best original screenplay.

Vicky, Cristina, Barcelona

Perfectly identifiable with Woody Allen and with the obsessions that have always characterized his cinema: desirable women, dialogues steeped in irony, Allen’s mischief and a project that someone has thought could become a magnificent commission to sell the Barcelona brand and from Spain.
