Tucked into the French Alps, Les Fermes de Marie is a wonderful little hamlet that artfully merges adult focused relaxation with a kid-friendly vibe. The 70 cozy rooms and inviting lounge spaces are a thoughtful mix of traditional and alpine elegance that, when paired with the stunning mountain backdrop and remote location, demand that you relax for a while. This hidden gem, just a 5-minute walk from the village of Megève, is best visited by car and worth veering off the beaten path en route to Annecy or Chamonix. It can also make for a great overnight if flying in or out of the Geneva airport.
Les Fermes de Marie Family-Friendly Review
Rest assured that kids are truly welcome here. From a kid’s concierge to the Hameau des Enfants kids’ club (open seasonally), this boutique hotel does an exceptional job of catering to the needs of its youngest guests. For example, baby packages are available and outfitted with a crib, high chair, bath and changing mat. An endless array of activities is offered most evenings so parents can enjoy some alone time and a nice meal. Kids can dine in the kids’ club with food prepared by a chef specially designated for younger palates.
Accommodations
Accommodations, tucked among the winding corridors of the hotel, are tastefully decorated with a mix of warm woven fabrics and the finest local materials. A multitude of room categories work for families, including the Duplex Room (with a mezzanine for the kids), the Junior Family Suite (two bedrooms) and the Mont Jolly Suite (three bedrooms). Those looking for a bit more room could opt for a private mountain chalet with modern comforts and a cozy fireplace. Bathrooms are spacious and most rooms are equipped with balconies and peaceful mountain views.

Amenities
Les Fermes de Marie is a peaceful refuge in summer and winter. A mix of indoor pools (including a family pool) and an outdoor whirlpool make for a nice break after a long day of hiking or skiing. A spa with 13 treatment rooms, a few small saunas and a fitness room is geared towards adults. The children’s hamlet, used for the kids’ club in the evenings, is open to children throughout the day when supervised by an adult. During the winter months, the ski shop outfits guests both young and young at heart with the most advanced ski brands and accessories. A hotel shuttle takes guests to the nearest gondola lift, a 5-minute drive away.
Dining
Food is central to the experience at Les Fermes de Marie and the dining room takes center stage. The chef prides himself on using local ingredients from the region of Savoy. Some dishes, like the signature black truffle pasta, are served throughout the year, while others come and go with the seasons. When the sun is shining, food and drinks are served on the beautiful terrace; however, Le Bar is also a cozy place to enjoy a spot of tea or a signature cocktail after a long day of skiing.
The Alpage des Fermes de Marie, a mountain chalet tucked high in the hills, is a true highlight for families looking for a guided hike and an authentic fondue experience. Twice a week during the summer months, hotel staff take small groups on a beautiful hike in the high mountain pastures. The ultimate reward is a meal enjoyed in a traditional alpine chalet, similar to what the infamous Heidi might have enjoyed. This only runs on a limited schedule, so book in advance as to not miss out!
Guests can choose from a bed and breakfast option or half board; however, those planning on sending their little ones to the kids’ club should consider the bed and breakfast plan since food is included in the fee.
Local Area
The local area provides endless opportunities for hiking, skiing and relaxation. Megève isn’t easily reachable by public transportation, so renting a car to the explore the mountain terrain is the best option. Just 45 minutes from Chamonix, but worlds away, Les Fermes de Marie and the surrounding area provide a more remote and authentic experience than other glitzy mountain resorts.
The village of Megève (population 3,000) offers a small-town experience with lots of local shops and restaurants to explore. The concierge is ready and willing to explain the endless activities available to families in the area.
