On my recent trip to the Disneyland Resort in California, I was lucky enough to be in the park when the newest restaurant offering opened – the Tropical Hideaway. Since it was brand new, I had to stop by for lunch and I’m thrilled that I did.
Located in Adventureland between the Jungle Cruise and Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, the quick service restaurant has a fun and exotic vibe that I resonated with right away. There’s no doubt that the epic popularity of the frozen treat the Dole Whip helped to inspire this new dining option, especially since the Tropical Hideaway features an expansive Dole Whip menu with some fun variations on the cult favorite dessert.
With its own separate bar and ordering area, guests can try out the traditional Dole Whip and float or other flavors like orange and raspberry. You can even try out swirled flavors and special loaded whips, which are sort of like sundaes.
There’s more to the Tropical Hideaway than whips of course and I was impressed with the menu, which is made up of a variety of different bao choices. While not for everyone, I love a freshly steamed bao and at the Tropical Hideaway you have a choice of spiced vegetable, kaffir lime chicken or bulgogi beef. I naturally went with the beef, along with a sweet lumpia dessert (fried cream cheese and pineapple) and couldn’t have been happier with my lunch choice.
The Tropical Hideaway is a fun new spot for light and quick bites, along with providing another option to order up that delicious Dole Whip.
