Planning Your Next Coastline Escape

By: Two Monkeys Travel - Contributor

Whether it’s a romantic retreat with your partner or a family holiday, we all love a trip to the beach. The British coast has some of the best seaside resorts around and can easily be enjoyed on a budget. A coastline escape is fun for everyone, and to make it that little bit more enjoyable, we’ve packed this handy little guide full of tips and advice to help you.

One of the most important parts of your trip is organizing exactly where you’re going to be staying. Spend some time researching on the internet before making your choice and remember cheap doesn’t always mean better.

Before setting off take a look at some activities you can do while you’re away, check out tourist websites and days out. As the weather can be difficult to predict, it’s a good idea to plan things for hotter days as well as rainy ones.

There are lots of things you can do for free too. If you’re taking young children they can have fun exploring, building sandcastles, digging holes, collecting shells and looking for crabs in rock pools. If you want to make things even more memorable, let them bury you in the sand.

Research the best time to travel too, by taking a look at peak tourist times, public holidays, and the school calendar, if you’re taking the kids. This way you will know what sort of crowd you can expect and how busy it will be when you’re there.

Packing in advance will make sure you have everything you need. Don’t forget the essentials such as sun cream, beach towels, hats, sunglasses and a coat (all weather permitting). Remember to pack clothes for the evening too and of course, don’t forget your bucket and spade. Try to pack as light as possible, just to make your life easier and allow space for anything you buy while away and want to bring home.

Now you’ve chosen the location, picked the activities and started packing, now is the time to decide on how you’re going to reach your chosen location. If you’re planning on driving,
make sure your car can get you there safely by doing all the necessary checks
such as:

  • Oil, water and screen wash fluid levels
  • Tyre pressure and tread
  • Braking and steering
  • Lights
  • Battery

If there is anything you have doubts on, you can get your vehicle booked in with Halfords Autocentre for a free MOT. All you have to do is buy something from a Halfords store, worth more than a 5p bag, before October 14 and you can get a free MOT to be used in the next year.
