While many of us grew up camping, spending nights in a tent, tucked into a sleeping bag on the hard ground or deflated air mattresses before waking – that is, if we managed to sleep – with a cold, often wet chill that made it difficult to want to unzip and greet the morning. Fortunately, these days camping doesn’t have to be an experience you suffer through, it can be quite a bit more upscale if you want it to be.
Sometimes referred to as “glamping,” AKA glamorous camping, there are many ways to enjoy this trend. It’s become especially popular for those who want luxuries along with the adventure and a chance to escape the chaos of the city that camping offers. According to one survey, more than a third of respondents stated that they’re at least somewhat interested in more luxurious camping, while 22% said they’re likely to actually do so in the next two years. Of those who’ve camped before, nearly half said they’re interested in glamping. If that’s you, read on.
If you’ve purchased one of the houses for sale in San Diego and are enjoying the city’s ever-present sunshine and bright blue skies, or just love all your home’s wonderful upscale perks no matter where your home is at, it might be hard to tear yourself away and camp outdoors. But, camping in luxury is an entirely different experience – here’s how you can do it.
Stay in a ‘Glamping’ Resort

There are glamping resorts in many destinations across the country, but if the Rocky Mountains are calling, you might want to consider Collective Vail. Do as much or as little as you like, with a long list of activities to choose from, like horseback riding, hiking, rafting, zip-lining, yoga, and fishing. This is truly high-end camping – you can even indulge in complimentary wine tasting right onsite at the Vines at Vail Winery.

Luxury Camping On Your Own
If you’d rather set up your own luxury camping experience, invest in a cabin tent which will provide plenty of space to move about. Many come with up to three rooms, providing a more comfortable stay. Bring items like a satellite TV antenna so you can watch the big game or your favorite television shows, and, forget about fluorescent lighting. Instead, pack battery-operated fairy lights that can be strung around the tent and between the trees.
Camping doesn’t have to mean hot dogs and beans either. Bring a dedicated drink cooler to keep Champagne cold along with a cheese board. You can pack cheeses in separated, sealed containers on top of your food cooler to help retain their shape, along with condiments like pickles or caramelized onion jam. Get creative, having fun with all the gourmet cuisine possibilities that complete the luxury camping experience.
