Top Cafés for Working and Studying in Barcelona

By: ApartmentBarcelona

If you’ve been to Barcelona you will already know that it’s bursting with cool co-working spaces and alternative offices, offering a new convenient way to work.

However, hip co-working spaces may only appeal to some of us, whilst many others still prefer taking the traditional route of working in a cosy café surrounded by cakes, coffees and comfortable chairs.

So, if you’re looking for a café in Barcelona to work or study in, look no further, as this guide will give you the lowdown on some of our favourites!

Top Cafés for Working and Studying in Barcelona

Satan´s Coffee Corner

If you’re a real coffee lover, Satan’s Coffee Corner is the excellent workspace for you. As you can tell by their name they’re famous for their ‘hellishly good coffee’. The weekly changing coffee menu is incredible, and you can even purchase their coffee blends as beans or freshly ground to take home in 250g bags! Marcos Bartolomé, who came from a family of coffee-makers, had the idea of setting up this amazing café to continue what he’d learnt growing up - adding a nice twist by doing it in his own way. Satan’s Coffee Corner’s ever-changing menu consists of healthy global street food that intends to ‘steer clear of clean eating clichés’, according to their website. The minimalistic yet quirky interior is the perfect place to relax and get some work done whilst enjoying the variety of coffees they have to offer.

Alsur Café

With locations in Eixample and El Born, Alsur Café is the perfect place to grab something to eat while doing your work. The free Wi-Fi, fun decorations and a relaxed atmosphere make you feel at home as you study with a cappuccino and a piece of cake by your side. The menu offers a variety of coffees, teas and fresh juices as well as an exciting brunch menu including many delicious dishes.

Providing plenty of individual tables as well as a large one for productive group work, the El Born branch, located in Plaça de Sant Cugat, provides a perfect space for those visiting the café ready to get some serious work done. However, if you are seeking the ultimate comfort, go to the branch opposite the Palau Nacional de la Música Catalana on Carrer de Sant Pere Més Alt which offers comfortable couches to sit on, allowing you to spend hours there! The words written on their windows ’lo que quieras, cuando quieras’, which is Spanish for ‘what you want, when you want’, says everything about this café and they most certainly stay true to their motto!

  • Eixample Address: Carrer de Roger de Llúria, 23, 08010 Barcelona
  • El Born Address: Plaça de Sant Cugat, 1, 08003 Barcelona
  • Palau Address: Carrer de Sant Pere Més Alt, 4, 08003 Barcelona

Coco Coffice Café

With its light and trendy interior and clever concept, Coco Coffice is definitely one of our favorites! Located in Sant Antoní, the fun space combines coffee and office space (hence the name) in a new and exciting way. Though the workers pay for the time they spend there, like in any other ordinary co-working space, during their time in Coco Coffice, workers may help themselves to whatever is available in the kitchen. That includes a variety of teas, coffees, fruits and other snacks, making it feel just like home! Moreover, there is a nice meeting area that can be booked, as well as a small boutique with magazines and stationary. The prices start at €3 per hour and there is a variety of flexible offers to match your studying and work needs – we’re in!

Federal

With branches in Barcelona, Madrid, Girona and Valencia, Federal Café is definitely playing a big role in Spain’s growing brunch scene. For many, Federal is considered the one and only place for studying and working thanks to its natural light, spacious interior and speedy Wi-Fi. Plenty of different sized tables with plug sockets welcome workers as they relax in this cool café. Their menu consists of traditional brunch and breakfast favorites and offers many tasty treats that satisfy any sweet tooth. What more, Federal is a dog-friendly establishment and you are more than welcome to bring your furry best friend for some emotional support whilst getting some work done. The outdoor seating area also provides the perfect place to take a break and enjoy the Mediterranean sunshine during the warmer seasons. So take your books, grab a treat and a coffee, and get to work!

  • Sant Antoní Address: Carrer del Parlament, 39, 08015 Barcelona
  • Gothic Quarter Address: Passatge de la Pau, 11, 08002 Barcelona

Petit à Petit

This cute café is situated in the trendy Gràcia district and is a favourite of many. They offer an extensive menu of delicious dishes and colourful natural juices in a neutral yet stylish interior. Petit à Petit is the perfect spot to hang out with some friends, work on your tasks or study for the next exam! Expect simple yet delicious snacks like goat’s cheese salads and smoked salmon baguettes, and not to forget, their endless amount of sweet treats! Big windows allow lots of natural light to enter the space, to ensure you can get some proper work done whilst feeling as refreshed as possible.

There is also a children’s play area in Petit à Petit, so if you want to ensure minimal noise when trying to work, we recommend heading to the café during school hours. Alternatively, this is a great space for parents that may need to get some work done whilst their little ones are distracted by the play area!
